A hard earned congratulations!

Let’s give it up for our latest round of advanced practitioners! Many of the people on this last test have persevered for multiple years at their current ranks to attain the required skill level needed to be considered for their rank exam, and after a grueling three and a half hours of physical and mental mayhem, their hard work, dedication and perseverance paid off.

At Cutting Edge Kempo Karate we endeavor to never test an individual before they are at their personal best, and work hard with each and every student to help them on their journey to self improvement. There are some that do not agree with our methodology and believe that time in, no matter what the skill and dedication level, is enough for an individual to move forward and be awarded their ranks regardless of the level of understanding and/or the amount of self improvement that has occurred. We strive to create, guide and mold each and every student into the best student they can be as an individual, period. That kind of influence takes a different time-frame for each and every student who walks through our doors, and we are dedicated to bringing that same level of individual instruction and counseling to every one of our students, no matter what their age, ability level, disability or self improvement need they may have.

So to all of my dedicated and skilled young people who tested on Saturday I have one word to describe what you are to me;

Warriors.

Many of you spent more than two years at the rank of green belt and more than a few of you considered quitting along the way, mostly because of the difficulty level you faced at the intermediate/advanced level and the things that we expect from you. But you, my friends, did not quit. You learned how to face those things that many of your peers could never accept and you excelled. That makes you special, especially in today’s society. It is for that reason, as well as so many more reasons, that I am so very proud of you all. Wonderful job everyone.

Train strong, to remain strong.

Now get back on the mat.

Closed due to snow – 2/5/16

Stay home, and stay safe.

At Cutting Edge Kempo Karate your health and safety is our primary concern. With the road conditions as they are, we have decided it would be best to cancel classes for tonight, Friday February 2nd. Enjoy time together with the family and keep each other warm.

And don’t forget, while you have the extra time on your hands to practice! Don’t forget we have the Kempo Invitational tournament coming up in March!

The applications are in! I would love to see all of my students, adults and kids alike, participate in the best tournament in town! Kempo practitioners only, no tricks and flips just straight forward martial arts!

Remember, the first person in each division to hand in their completed application is the last to compete! (That’s a good thing 😉 )

Adult Black Belt continuous sparring, which I have been told will be split by age and weight.

Grand Champion for all junior division first place form competitors!

Mini Junior Division

Beginners, don’t miss out on this division! A no stress introduction to the tournament environment, competitors are guaranteed to have me as their judge as the audience roars with approval for our youngest competitors. Mini Juniors will demonstrate their basics for the crowd, and then perform their favorite karate technique for the judges and audience. Everyone wins at their first tournament!

So get those applications in, and remember if you need some extra help to get those private lessons scheduled ahead of time, as they book up really fast around this time of year!

The way of the warrior

Our first Black Belt test as Cutting Edge Kempo has come and gone, and I could not be prouder of everyone who did their part on Sunday November 15, 2015. Through all the muscle failure, cramping bodies, mental stress and hours upon hours of physical and mental pressure and non stop movement, you all emerged victorious. Even our one student who could not complete her test due to an unforeseen injury early on in the test should hold her head up high knowing even the few short hours she spent with us was tougher than what most people she knows could endure, and there will be another time for her, and she will rise to the occasion and perform as I know she can. I can not express how proud and elated I was when she walked through the door at the end of the exam to be a part of the ceremony for her brothers and sisters in the art. That is one of the hallmarks of the warriors we train to become.

Our panel of Black Belts did a fine job both judging and guiding the students through their experience, helping them along the way to better themselves and offering their knowledge freely to enhance everyone’s martial skill. It is good to have panel members who do not know the capability of each student, as we get a fresh perspective on areas that may need improvement as well as strong points for each individual. Thank you Grandmaster Fescina, Sensei Caracciola and Sandan Goldberg for joining me and my students for the six hours plus that was our first test.

Happy Halloween! Get more Kick or Treat cards here!

Cutting Edge Kempo Karate would like to take the timeout to wish everyone a safe and happy Halloween, and remind kids and parents alike to exercise vigilance while out trick or treating this year. Remember most drivers are not thinking about your health and well being while traveling from place to place.

We would also like to thank all our students and parents who took our new ‘Kick or Treat’ cards to hand out with their goodies this Halloween. We are happy to say that thousands of these cards will be in circulation this year, but we have run out of cards to hand out and many of you are still asking! So click on the image below and print away if you need more cards to hand out to the neighborhood kids!

Don’t forget to write your child’s (or your) attendance number in the pumpkin, and if people come in and sign up for the year after their trial, we will use you as their referral! Let’s see how many people can earn a free year of tuition at the Cutting Edge Kempo Karate Dojo!

Congratulations to all our newest advanced ranks!

Everyone who trains with me knows that we hold our advanced tests but a few times a year. Our students work hard to advance and progress in their training. Our higher ranks are held in great regard and the amount of time in training, both mentally and physically, should be applauded.

Not everyone can do this.

MANY people quit, even with our guidance and support.

Here at Cutting Edge Kempo you will earn, not receive. You will pass, not be promoted. You will become better, stronger and faster. As your body hardens, so shall your resolve. As your spirit grows, so shall your will to persevere. Life is not about winning at everything you do, life is hard and mean and uncaring. With a proper Martial Arts background you can face ANYTHING that comes your way in REAL LIFE! Not only will you be able to face life’s trials head on, you will do it with integrity and you will forge on knowing that all experiences, even those that are the farthest from positive, are learning experiences that help you to become the individual that you are. Life is a learning experience.

Train for life, because life is training.

I am so very proud of all of our students who persevered and showed their true spirit and heart in yesterday’s exam. You should all be proud of yourselves; although your bodies are hurting today, your spirit is stronger. Your bumps and bruises are your trophies. Wear them with pride.

This was one of our largest advanced tests in quite some time, and these people are true warriors.

A huge congratulations to:
